The Great Barrier
If church planting is meant to be as simple as Jesus taught, what is the problem? Why are we not all doing it?
If ordinary people are supposed to do it, what is hindering us?
There are many answers, but I want to explore just one today. I won’t traverse all of Scripture, but will look only at one simple story.
The Christmas Story
Regular folks, right? No one was seminary trained, except for perhaps Zechariah. They were ordinary people facing something God wanted them to do.
What was on their minds about this thing God wanted?
Mary: Luke 1:30 – The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God.” (NASB)
Joseph: Matthew 1:20 – But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” (NASB)
Zechariah: Luke 1:13 – But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.” (NASB)
Shepherds: Luke 2:10 – But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people.” (NASB)
The one thing that deters us most from carrying out God’s will is fear. Jesus does not want fear to drive us as we strive to pursue Him.
Is fear driving your life?
How is fear blocking you from doing some basic things God wants you to do for Him?
Who can you talk to about the fear you are experiencing?
Are you ready to overcome your fear and consider church planting using the GSE process? Let’s talk.
